2019 Honda CR-V Touring Review

2019 Honda CR-V Touring 4dr Review

Honda

The 2019 Honda CR-V is one of the best-selling cars in the nation, and while popularity does not necessarily go hand-in-hand with excellence, it definitely does in this situation. The CR-V is impeccably well-rounded with the room, fuel economy, efficiency, value, security and quality that best suits most of its compact crossover SUV rivals. And while some of its competitors may be sportier, more characteristic or off-road capable, none of them manages to cater to such a broad crowd. Any search for a tiny SUV including the 2019 CR-V is strongly recommended.

The Honda CR-V is unchanged for 2019. It was last redesigned for 2017.

The Honda CR-V’s interior and technology

2019 Honda CR-V Touring Review

The CR-V offers a tasteful, if slightly dull, aesthetic design that is backed up by over-average materials and builds building for this segment. If you’re a prior owner of CR-V, you’ll notice that this latest version features a higher quality and premium atmosphere than previous models.

If you’re not, you’re still going to discover one of the nicest cabins in terms of quality, and also one of the most functional, as it boasts a number of smart storage solutions in the center console.

Starting with the EX trim, the CR-V comes standard with an abundance of technology at a fair cost that makes the base LX trim a bit of a moot point. You’ll get three USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a range of other smartphone integration applications, and a six-phone sound system.

Controlling them is a seven-inch touchscreen that is not the strongest CR-V component owing to iffy reactions, absence of physical menu buttons, and occasionally confusing menu structure.

The newer Honda interface found in Odyssey and Accord addresses these problems. Rival systems, in particular, Subaru Forester’s, give similar characteristics with a more user-friendly interface.

The CR-V is one of the bigger “compact SUVs,” at least on the inside, as Honda usually does a better job than most of maximizing every bit of indoor room possible. Although its general exterior size and width are average for the segment, its passenger and cargo space is better than almost any competitor.

The 60/40-split reclining back seat offers a real room and convenience for even big adults, while the rear-facing vehicle seat should be able to fit in the center position — even with fewer passengers on the front. Honda also supplies LATCH anchors in all three seats.

The headroom is abundant regardless of the seating situation or the existence of the sunroof accessible.

Behind the back seat is a big and flexible cargo area (37.6 to 39.2 cubic feet) with one of the smallest, most readily charged cargo floors in the section.

That’s excellent news if you’re going to take a large, heavy stroller, or the dog needs to jump aboard. Folding the back seat down using the two remote pulls in the cargo region shows a maximum capacity of 75.8 cubic feet.

That’s better than most midsize SUVs like the Ford Edge and better than all the other compact SUVs, save the Subaru Forester, which nickels it with just 0.3 cubic feet of room.

2019 Honda CR-V Touring performance and fuel economy

The 2019 Honda CR-V is technically accessible with two motors, but only the base CR-V LX comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder base. Front and all-wheel drives are accessible and, like every CR-V, continuous variable transmission (CVT) is standard. This engine’s production of 184 horsepower and 180-pound torque is actually fairly great for the segment, as is its fuel economy of 28 mpg town, 32 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined (FWD). AWD reduces these numbers by 1 mpg each.

However, the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine found at all other trim levels is one of the most attractive motors in the industry (at least on paper). Its production of 190 hp and 179 lb-ft is better than most, while fuel economy is improved to 28 city/32 highway/30 coupled with FWD. AWD reduces these numbers by 1 mpg. This fuel-to-fuel equilibrium is outstanding.

2019 Honda CR-V Touring Driving Experience

“Compact CUVs are directed to young couples and families who want more use than most sedans can give. And in that position, Honda CR-V is the best of its kind. It’s spacious, comfortable and efficient — all the characteristics that make us believe that the Honda CR-V will remain on top of the best-selling crossover column for quite some time.”

Today’s CR-V drives with more refinement and sophistication than previous releases. It’s more comfortable, there are less wind and road noise, and the low-power turbo engine causes quieter, less strained noise when driving around town. These findings also apply to a large extent in comparison to most rivals.

In particular, the CR-V is well rounded. Its steering is well-weighted and gives adequate trust, but does not make parking a job.

Its handling is definitely not the most responsive or road-wrapping in the segment, but it also inspires trust while not getting away from a pleasant journey.

As for the engine, the low-end power of the turbocharged engine makes the CR-V feel like a powerful performer at more mundane, around-town speeds. Open it, and it’s starting to run out of steam, and you’ll notice some CVT droning.
