Pros
If you like the versatility and all-wheel drive capacity of an SUV, but you’re not looking for something large, bulky or fuel-thirsty, the 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport subcompact might surprise you. A long list of sophisticated characteristics helps boost driver trust, and a decent cost eliminates any fear of huge monthly payments.
Cons
Unlike the Jeep Renegade and Subaru Crosstrek, Rogue Sport is not intended for hard off-road circumstances. You will discover more energy from the turbocharged Hyundai Kona, better handling from the Mazda CX-3 and a more flexible interior in the Honda HR-V.
New For 2019
For 2019, the Nissan Rogue Sport can now be equipped with the Nissan ProPilot Assist and the Safety Shield 360, both of which together provide rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, and lane-keep assistance, to name a few. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard, as is the Nissan Rear Door Alert alert system.
2019 Nissan Rogue Sport Expert Review
Slotting between the best-selling Rogue and the diminutive Kicks is the 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport, a sub-compact crossover SUV providing the design and characteristics of the bigger Rogue, but with a more cozy feel. Up against large names like the Honda HR-V and Hyundai Kona, the Rogue Sport looks fairly nice, providing more interior space than the MazdaCX-3 and a better track record than the Jeep Renegade. Rogue Sport is not large on energy or off-road capability,
But it does have enough cargo room to transport a weekend worth of equipment, and its smaller size makes it easy to maneuver and park in urban environments. Rogue Sport also wins Nissan’s best driver support and advances safety and infotainment characteristics, making it a tempting option.
Driving the 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport
N car language, adding “sport” to the title is something like creating a “fun-size” candy bar: the same taste in a larger package. This is definitely the case for Rogue Sport in 2019. With 141 horsepower under the hood, a continually variable automatic transmission (CVT) and a suspension that is not too gentle around the corners or too firm around the city, Rogue Sport takes the correct line between comfort and control and acceleration and fuel economy.
Acceleration is not surprising given that, depending on the model, 141 horsepower has to transport between 3,225 and 3,380 pounds of Rogue Sport. But apart from passing on the freeway, the train showed little resistance to the usual tasks of getting around the city. At freeway speeds, noise levels were also well-controlled, enabling simple discussion. Rogue Sport takes advantage of its larger sibling by feeling more significant than many rivals, without feeling bulky.
Favorite Features
AROUND VIEW MONITOR The brightness of the Nissan Around View monitor is that it can project a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the surroundings of Rogue Sport, helping the driver to see objects that are too low to be seen from behind the wheel.
PRO PILOT ASSIST This single-lane assistance scheme is a forerunner to self-driving vehicles, only in this situation the driver is still needed to maintain his hand on the wheel. ProPilot Assist can assist decrease fatigue by driving the vehicle back onto its lane, slowing down when approaching traffic, and resuming acceleration when the road ahead is clear.
2019 Nissan Rogue Sport Interior
Take a look inside the 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport and you might believe that you accidentally chose the bigger Nissan Rogue, only three-quarters in size. But that’s not a bad thing, because Nissan does a good job of presenting a beautiful yet easy-to-operate dash and center console, with a fresh7-inch touch-screen audio system and a steering wheel complete of redundant controls for everything from Bluetooth connectivity to the accessible drive-assist devices.
The front seat legroom is as generous as the bigger Rogue, but the back seat is as short as the cargo bay. Fold the back seats down, however, and the cargo quantity ranges from 22 cubic feet to more than 60 cubic feet. The smart Divide-N-Hide cargo management scheme helps keep larger products from rolling around when the car is in motion.
2019 Nissan Rogue Sport Exterior
Visually, we like the exterior design of Rogue Sport. It looks more sporty and contemporary than the bigger Rogue on which it is based. Familiar Nissan design features such as V-motion grille and sleek wraparound taillights are in location, as are appealing black wheel-arch moldings and reduced plastic cladding. The spectacular up-kick of the rear-quarter-panel glass provides a rather sinister look, as do the available 19-inch alloy wheels.
Compared to most rivals in this segment, Rogue Sport is slightly bigger, close to the size of bigger compact SUVs such as the Jeep Compass and Ford Escape.
2019 Nissan Rogue Sport Standard Features
Every 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport comes standard with a 7-inch touch-screen audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, rear-view camera, Nissan’s Rear Door Alert (reminds the driver to inspect the rear seat before walking away from the vehicle), automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Standard facilities include cruise control, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED accent lamps, rear-seat vents, power windows and power door locks. Power comes from a 2.0-liter engine coupled to a CVT automatic transmission.
2019 Nissan Rogue Sport Options
The Rogue Sport SV mid-level adds bigger 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, push-button start, 6-way driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control and, as part of the Safety Shield 360 suite, automatic pedestrian emergency braking, auto high beams, rear automatic braking plus lane-departure warning and intervention. The top-level SL is equipped with 19-inch wheels, fog lights, remote begin, Nissan’s Around View Monitor, ProPilot Assist,9-speaker Bose audio, navigation, leather shifter, and heated steering wheel and seats.

The SL can be fitted with a sunroof and LED headlights.
2019 Nissan Rogue Sport Engine
You can have any engine that you want in Nissan’s 2019 Rogue Sport, as long as it’s Nissan’s 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that brings out 141 horsepower. It is transmitted either to the front wheels (FWD) or to all four wheels (AWD) through a continuously variable automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive system on this SUV is, however, designed for foul weather and dirt roads, not real off-road. The little engine provides good energy, and even though it’s not what we’d call fast, fairly much everything in this class suffers from the same complaint. The fuel economy is nice, although the EPA estimates for the Honda HR-V follow.
2.0-liter inline-4
141 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm
147 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 25/32 mpg (FWD), 24/30 mpg (AWD)
The 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport Price
The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for base 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport S begins at just over $23,200 when you include a $995 target charge.
The SV starts close to $25,000, and the SL is only shy of $29,000. This is for the front-wheel-drive; the all-wheel-drive scheme contributes $1,350 to each model.
A fully charged Nissan Rogue Sport SL with AWD will run around $28,600. A charged AWD Rogue Sport SL outperforms around $32,700. Base rates are on par with MazdaCX-3 and Chevrolet Trax, but that’s a few thousand more than the Honda HR-V.
Before purchasing, be sure to check out the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price calculator to see what others in your region are paying for their Rogue Sport. As far as resale is concerned, we expect Rogue Sport to maintain values better than the Chevrolet Trax, just below the MazdaCX-3 and Jeep Renegade and well below the Honda HR-V.
